The Vitrella brassicaformis CCMP3155 genome assembly and gene models were downloaded from CryptoDB release 45 on October 31, 2019. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by CryptoDB and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

Vitrella brassicaformis CCMP3155

Vitrella brassicaformis (Alveolata, Chromerida, Family Vitrellaceae) is an example of free-living, photosynthetic marine algae that are close relatives to the Apicomplexa, a phylum containing many obligate human and animal parasites. Chromerida species have also been described as coral symbionts. Vitrella brassicaformis was co-published with Chromera velia.
