The genome sequence and gene prediction of Thermothelomyces fergusii CBS 405.69 have not been determined by the Joint Genome Institute (JGI), but were downloaded from CSFG on July 31, 2022. In order to allow comparative analyses with other fungal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into Mycocosm. Please note that this copy of the genome is not automatically updated. JGI tools were used to automatically annotate predicted proteins.

Thermothelomyces fergusii, previously Corynascus thermophilus, associated anamorph Myceliophthora fergusii and basionym Thielavia thermophila from the Chaetomiaceae family is a thermophilic fungus. It grows optimally at 45 ºC with a range of 22-55 ºC (1). The species was isolated from mushroom compost consisting of equal parts of hay, corn cobs, manure and wheat straw. Thermothelomyces fergusii has been reported as amongst the most active cellulose degraders (2), and it can grow and degrades cellulose, but it does not extensively degrade lignocellulose. The genome of T. fergusii will provide information on thermostable celluloses as well as insight into the Chaetomiaceae family and evolution of thermophily in fungi.
