Asordaria arctica CBS 143.68 Minimal Draft
Sordaria arctica, formerly known as Asordaria arctica, exhibits a coprophilous (1) and endophytic lifestyle (2,3). Sordaria spp. are mostly coprophilous fungi, but there is recent evidence of an additional endophytic lifestyle. The genus Sordaria is the name-bearing type genus for the family Sordariaceae and the order Sordariales. Among Sordariaceae, Neurospora and Sordaria have been originally differentiated based on their ascospore morphology and ornamentation. The genus Asordaria was introduced to dissociate some Sordaria species with smooth ascospores without a gelatinous sheath, but both genera are now considered congeneric (4). Strain CBS 143.68 was isolated from wolf or fox dung in Alaskan tundra, USA.
