The Chlamydomonas schloesseri CCAP 11/173 genome sequence and gene models were not determined by the JGI, but were provided by Rory Craig in July 2020. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by Rory Craig and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

Chlamydomonas schloesseri CCAP 11/173

Chlamydomonas schloesseri is a close relative of C. reinhardtii and one of the first described species in the monophyletic genus Chlamydomonas. Genomic resources for close relatives of C. reinhardtii are required to perform nucleotide-level comparative genomics analyses, especially for noncoding regions where more distantly related species (such as Volvox carteri) cannot be aligned. Potential applications include the identification of conserved noncoding elements, and the inclusion of divergence estimates in population genomics analyses.

C. schloesseri CCAP 11/173 was sampled from soil in Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya. (description courtesy of Rory Craig)
