The Klebsormidium nitens NIES-2285 v1.0 genome sequence and v1.1 gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from the Klebsormidium nitens NIES-2285 genome sequencing project on May 10, 2023. In order to ensure this genome is comparable to those sequenced by the JGI, we applied filters to remove if present: 1) transposable elements, 2) pseudogenes, 3) alternative transcripts and overlapping models, 4) alleles on secondary scaffolds and 5) unsupported short models. This resulted in the removal of 1487 models and the generation of the FilteredModels1 (GeneCatalog) gene track. All published models are available in the ExternalModels track. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by the Klebsormidium nitens NIES-2285 genome sequencing project and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to the genes.
Klebsormidium nitens NIES-2285
Klebsormidium (Archaeplastida, Phylum Streptophyta, Class Klebsormidiophyceae) is a cosmopolitan genus of charophytic algae, widely spread in several terrestrial and freshwater habitats. Some Klebsormidium species have adapted to harsh environment such as polar or desert conditions. It is generally accepted that the ancestor(s) of current terrestrial plants is closely related to present-day charophytic algae. Klebsormidium is an early diverging lineage of charophytes, and usually consist of multicellular and non-branching filaments without differentiated or specialized cells. The draft genome of Klebsormidium nitens NIES-2285 (taxonomically reclassified from K. flaccidum, Original strain: UTEX 321, Identical Strains: SAG 335-1a and CCCryo 481-16) was sequenced in 2014, and it was suggested that K. nitens possesses many genes specific to land plants (Hori et al., 2014).
