The Picochlorum renovo genome sequence and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from the Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Greenhouse portal on October 31, 2019. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by LANL and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

The following text is modified from NCBI Bioproject https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/bioproject/PRJNA558990:

Picochlorum renovo was isolated and characterized at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in Golden, CO, USA. Closely related to Picochlorum sp. (Foflonker et al., 2015), this alga is a high productivity (34 g/m2/day), halotolerant species. This alga displays a short lag phase, rapid growth rate, high biomass productivity, and broad salinity (growth at 107.5 g/L salinity) and thermal tolerances (peak growth at 35°C). The biomass composition of this alga is rich in carbohydrates and protein (59.5% and 20% dry cell weight, respectively).
