The Tetrabaena socialis NIES-571 genome sequence and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from NCBI on October 31, 2019. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by NCBI and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

Tetrabaena socialis NIES-571

Tetrabaena socialis (Archaeplastida, Viridiplantae, Phylum Chlorophyta, Class Chlorophyceae) is an important model organism for the study of the evolution of multicellularity. The Tetrabaenaceae, existing as a 4-celled colony, are one of the most morphologically simple volvocine algae, compared to the progressively more complex colony formations of the Goniaceae (e.g., Gonium pectorale) and the Volvocaceae (e.g., Volvox carteri).
