The Trebouxia sp. A1-2 genome sequence and gene models have not been determined by the JGI, but were downloaded from NCBI on July 19, 2020. Please note that this copy of the genome is not maintained by NCBI and is therefore not automatically updated. In order to allow comparative analyses with other algal genomes sequenced by the JGI, a copy of this genome is incorporated into PhycoCosm. The JGI Annotation Pipeline was used to add functional annotation to this genome.

Trebouxia sp. A1-2

A lichen photobiont, this green alga (Archaeplastida, Viridiplantae, Phylum Chlorophyta, Class Trebouxiophyceae) was isolated from metagenomic sequencing with its associated mycobiont, Umbilicaria pustulata, from thalli sample collected near Olbia (Sardinia, Italy) and Orscholz (Saarland, Germany). The study of Trebouxia sp. A1-2 and its lichen holo-genome are important for understanding the evolutionary history of lichen symbiosis and advancing use of these unique organisms in biotechnology and natural product development.
