Yarrowia lipolytica YlCW001 is the most ionic liquid-tolerant oleaginous yeast published to date, tolerating up to 18% (v/v) 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium acetate ([EMIM][OAc]) (Walker et. al. 2019). YlCW001 was isolataed after 200 generations of adaptive laboratory evolution in [EMIM][OAc] from the parent strain, PO1F (ATCC MYA-2613). The ionic liquid-tolerant phenotype of YlCW001 is advantageous for novel biocatalysis in high concentrations of ionic liquids.
